Fly fishing is different than regular fishing because it involves different types of equipment and bait. Different fly fishing line knots need to be used to productively master the art of fly fishing. One major difference between standard fishing and fly fishing are the knots used.
Although there are many types of knots concerned in fly fishing, the most commonly used knots are simple to tie. The basic knots used in fly fishing are the arbor knot, Albright knot, nail knot, double surgeons knot and the improved clinch knot.
The Albright knot is used to connect the backing to the fly line, the nail knot provides the connection between the fly line and the leader, the twice surgeons knot connects the leader to the tippet and the improved clinch knot fastens the fly to the tippet.
Properly tied fly fishing knots are one of the first things you need to get right. There are a range of fly fishing knots available. There is a fairly simple knot accessible for just about any fly fishing application: Reel to backing, backing to line, line to leader, leader to tippet, and tippet to fly. Practice your knots until you can tie them with your eyes shut. Some people will use two loop knots where one knot will do. So keep practicing, and happy fishing.
